IT IS ONE/JE TO JEDNO with Vera Mickova @ PLUSMINUSNULA ZILINA

The exhibition IT IS ONE / JE TO JEDNO at the Plusmínusnula Gallery presents a series of  tapestries that were created in a collaboration of Svetlana Fialová and a textile artist Věra Mičková from Olomouc, Czech Republic. The original ink drawings were modified in a dialogue of the two artists so that they would work best for the textile medium. The resulting tapestries not only depict scenes from Svetlana' s work, they undeniably reflect also the authorship of Věra Mičková.

The exhibition is on from Dec 4 till Jan 9

curator: Michal Stolárik
Vernissage: 4 November at 6PM
The exhibition runs until 28 November 2014

It is a pleasure for ZAHORIAN&co GALLERY to introduce simultaneously solo and dissertation exhibition of Svetlana Fialová – UFOs & River Flows. Exhibition is a result of her Ph.D. studies, while it primarily shows artworks made during her stay in London. In her work, Svetlana Fialová continually develops drawing as a medium, while she pushes its customary boundaries and confutes speculations about its exhaustibility. Fialová´s own life and stories from her surroundings come to the thematic foreground. Compositionally multilayered works which are full of specific iconography and immanent metaphors are shrouded in mystery with a strong psychological profile. In her latest works she is not fixed to depicts true images of reality but she is experimenting with visual errors and image distortions. Perspective „errors“ have been already known from history of fine arts but they are especially characteristic for the current visual culture. What a designer can do with a few „clicks“ in a graphic program, Fialová draws with Indian ink on a paper. She takes formal features of national and world history of fine arts and blends them with contemporary trends. This results into captivating visual expression with more or less difficult motifs and themes. Works of Svetlana Fialová act like a reminiscence of „ghosts“ of past or full moon dreams, which comes to life again and again and ag…

The Drawing Lab part II

I spent two intense weeks locked in the studio working on this drawing..

"What, if some day or night a demon were to steal after you into your loneliest loneliness and say to you: 'This life as you now live it and have lived it, you will have to live once more and innumerable times more''
Inspired by this quote by Nietzsche (and Rust Cohle of the True Detective series), I wanted to depict a dichotomy where the infinite cycle of time can be seen as either absolutely terrifying, "the heaviest weight imaginable", or it can be seen as beautiful.

Diversity Required at the Slovak National Gallery

Diversity Required

April 15 – June 1, 2014
Esterházy Palace, 2nd floor

I'm showing one drawing in a group show called Diversity Required at the Slovak National Gallery on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. The exhibition is based on the confrontation of the historical view of the first academy of arts in Slovakia with a critical curatorial perspective of its contemporary form as a creative laboratory.

From the official statement: The relationships between pedagogues and students, their mutual links, influences, confrontations and multilayered contexts, which are vitally manifested in the work of both sides, represent the focus of this exhibition. Through the curatorial selection from the history of individual academy departments we will demonstrate examples of the forming and developing of these relationships from the master and apprentice relationship up to partnership dialogue while using legendary examples of pedagogues and students.
